The United States Navy was first added in 1775 for military beginnings in the America's. Although this was a time in the beginnings of colonial America and the American Revolution the Naval history of America would continue from then until now. In the city of Chicago you will find a piece of the Naval history that was a portion of my post it note journey to this area.
At the tip of the Naval Pier you will find a memorial that is dedicated to those who served for the United States Navy. It is a anchor from the USS Chicago that was the third war ship named after the city of Chicago. The first USS Chicago served from 1889 to 1928 and was part of White Fleet. The second was part of both World War One and World War Two but would be sunk during the Battle of Guadalcanal. The third was commissioned in 1945 and was used in the last stages of World War Two. The ship was also used in the Vietnam War where it had been transformed into a guided missel cruiser. The present anchor is from the third was salvaged from this war ship as it was decommissioned in 1980. The anchor is a representative to the thousands who served the navy and the three ships of the USS Chicago.
Today the memorial adds as a portion of the Navy Pier and the experience. The anchor has so many great views of it and the area around the Navy Pier. If you are a fan of history then the Anchor for the USS Chicago at the Navy pier is worth checking out. #ridingwithkurt #postit #USSChicago
