Thomas Jefferson was born in Shadwell, VA on April 13, 1743. By age 33 he would be the author of the Declaration of Independence. In 1797 he would be our second Vice President and in 1801 he would be our third President of the United States. After Presidency he would spend the remaining rest of his life at his property known as Monticello. After the War of 1812 he would offer his own personal library to Congress that would be the foundation of The Library of Congress. His dedication to America can be found just south of The Mall which was part of my post-it note journey to Washington D.C.

Thomas Jefferson was also a Architect to the Rotunda at the University of Virginia. The Thomas Jefferson Memorial was designed based on the original Rotunda. The memorial was built in 1943 and stands at 129 feet in height. Inside you'll find a nineteen foot bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson. Additionally, you'll find his own writings inscripted along the walls including those from the Declaration of Independence. The architecture is absolutely beautiful and has incredible views of the National Mall and Potomac River.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is open 24 hours a day. It is also the centerpiece for the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. held every March and April. This memorial is exceptional and is an easy walk to from L'Enfant Plaza for the Metro Rail. Add a stop to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial when visiting Washington D.C. #ridingwithkurt #postit #jeffersonmemorial
