In 1632 a banished pastor from the Massachusetts Bay Colony would travel south and purchase a peice of land that would become a prominant city in with a state that would become known as Rhode Island. Roger Williams who was fleeing religions persecution purchased the land from the Narragansett Tribe. He would name the town Providence in reference to God protecting him from his trials and exile.
Today the city of Providence is a town that offers a tremendous amount of things to do and is part of my most recent post-it note travels. It is the Capitol of Rhode Island and the Capitol Building is located on Frances Street that is part of the centerpiece of the city. There is also the Providence Place Mall that offers plenty of shopping and dining. At least once a month in the downtown area of Providence there is the Waterfire experience. This is a experience where fires are lit along the Providence River and it's an appreciation of arts, the history of the area, and the the city of Providence. It's next event is July 4th, 2026 where it's recognizing the 250th Anniversary of the United States. For dining in Providence there are plenty of great options including Cassarino's on Federal Hill, Maria's on Federal Hill, Plantation City for the Vegetarian option, Xaco Tacos, and Bluefin Grille. There are several memorials to check out including the 1871 Soldiers and Sailors Monument, The Roger Williams Memorial, and many more.
For staying in Providence, RI a stay at the Marriott Downtown Providence Hotel will not leave you disappointed. It offers an amazing breakfast buffet that ranges from traditional breakfast items to an omelet station. The rooms are very nice witb very comfortable beds. They ate located in the heart of Providence and is only five minutes from the Amtrak station, minutes away from the memorials, and restaurants. Newport is only 45 minutes away and Warren is 20 minutes away. Brown University and Rhode Island University are close by as well along with Johnson and Wales. A trip to Providence is one worth checking out with the history, food, and other amazing stops in this great Ne England town. #ridingwithkurt #postit #providenceri
