There is plenty of history when it comes to Chicago, Il. Naval history is a strong part of this area of the country along Lake Michigan. There is an area that is just east of the downtown area that offers not only great history but activities as well.
The Navy Pier was originally constructed in 1916 as the Municipal Pier for shipping and public recreation. In 1927 the area was renamed the Navy Pier for those who served in World War One. It was transitioned during this thirteen years later as a training facility for World War Two. After World War Two the area would become unused until 1990 when it became part of a multi use area for entertainment and tourism. Today the Navy Pier offers fun activities including the Centennial Ferris Wheel, Carnival Rides, Restaurants, Boat Tours, Great Views of Lake Michigan, amazing views of the Chicago skyline, and other options. Next to the pier is the Addams Jane Memorial Park that has beautiful gardens in it. There is the Chicago Children's Museum to check out as you enter the Pier that is only $28.00.
There are plenty of hotels near the Navy Pier and is free to go to. It is open seven days a week from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm. This is one stop that I really did enjoy that was recommended to me by post it note. #ridingwithkurt #postit #navypierchicago
