Historical Stops In Boston, MA!!!
Boston, MA was founded in 1630 by a group of Puritan's led by Governor John Winthrop. In June of this year I had the opportunity to visit this great city with another post it note trip. If you're a fan of history then this is one to explore. Here are three great historical stops along the Freedom Trail to explore.
Bunker Hill is located north of the city of Boston and home to a significant battle in the early stages of the American Revolutionary War. On June 16th, 1775 American Colonists would prepare for an attack by the British on Breed's Hill. The next morning the British would fire on the colonists and would advance toward the defenders. The outcome would be very costly to the British as they would lose over half their army in the Battle. Although the British won it was a moral victory to the American Colonists. Today you can see the area where they defended as it offers various memorials, informative signs, and other interesting features.
In 1742 Fanueil Hall would be built as a marketplace and meeting space. Several informative meetings were held here prior to the American Revolutionary War. Today it serves as a part of the Boston History. It has an amazing food hall, shopping, and other fascinating features. On the second level of the Hall is the meeting area where they had important discussions about the future of Boston under British rule with various paintings of the influential individuals of Boston.
In 1773, England would impose several taxes on the colonists including the Tea Act of 1773. The colonists saw this as a threat on their future stating there is "taxation without representation". On the evening of December 16, 1773 50 sons of liberty dressed as Native Americans and boarded three British ships. They would end up dumping nearly 92,000 pounds of tea into the harbor. The result would not be taken lightly by England and would impose harsh punishment to those who did further damage the ships or property of England in 1774. By 1775 these actions led to the American Revolutionary War. Today there is a museum, gift shop, restaurant, and tour of this area of Boston aboard the ships.
The Freedom Trail is a extensive walk throughout the city of Boston. These are three stops that I enjoyed and you will to. Add a stop to all three of these when visiting Boston, MA. #ridingwithkurt #postit
