Two Great Leaders And Their Monuments In Washington D.C.!!!
The United States has had several leaders that have been instrumental in the direction of the country. In May I had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. by post it note to discover many monuments that reflect those leaders. There are two individuals who had leadership roles during key moments in US history. One leader was during the American Revolutionary War while the other was during the American Civil War.
George Washington was born in Virginia and would later become general of the Virginia Militia during The French and Indian War from 1754 to 1763. He would be later be elected to the House of Burgess where he opposed British treatment of the colonists. In 1775, he would become the commander in chief to the Continental Army. He would face many challenges with the undisciplined soldiers versus the well prepared British and Hessian Soldiers. He would later go on to be elected as America's First President where he served for two terms from 1789 to 1797. He helped lead and develop the early American States and creation of Washington D.C.
Abraham Lincoln born in Kentucky would become a self educated individual with finding career success in Illinois. His early professional career consisted as a lawyer but eventually would lead to his involvement in politics. His political career started as a state legislator but eventually as a U.S. Representative for the state of Illinois. He would be elected as the 16th President of the United States after defeating Stephen Douglas. Shortly after his election the Southern States began seceding and he would be faced with a divideded nation Over the next four years he was pressed with leading the north to the eventual success and winning the war as well as freeing those slaved. He would be assassinated shortly after the war at Ford's Theater and would never be able to see the future of the United States.
Both the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial are located in The National Mall and Free to attend. They are respective of those two amazing leaders. They are open seven days week and worth the stop. a stop at both monuments for great leaders in the D.C. area. #ridingwithkurt #postit
