Petroglyph National Monument New Mexico!!!
Native Americans such as the Pueblo, Apache, Navajo, and other tribes settled throughout the Southwest prior to colonization. The Spanish would eventually colonize the area dating back to 1540. One state that offers a rich history of the Native American and Spanish history is located in the southwest corner of the United States.
Throughout the state of New Mexico you can find remnants of the early native Americans and Spanish. Just outside the city of Albuquerque is a place that offers a fascinating stop that was recommended to me by post it note on one of my first post it note trips to Nevada and New Mexico. Petroglyph National Monument is a amazing place where you find the history of this area of the United States. Petroglyph is a long stretch of volcanic rock that offers Native American etchings on the rock. The etchings range from the people themselves, warriors, celestials, animals, masks, warriors and other fascinating depicting the history of the people. One etching that caught my attention was one of a Macaw that was part of the trade route from South America to the area which would eventually end up in the area of New Mexico. There is a visitor center that is located only five minutes away that has a gift shop. There is parking by Petroglyph and it is open from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm seven days a week.
For hotels I stayed in Santa Fe, NM at the Inn at Santa Fe by Best Western which is less than an hour away. For dining in Albuquerque Garcia's offers a great taste of the state of New Mexico. If you are looking for the history of the state of New Mexico then head to Petroglyph National Monument on your next adventure. #ridingwithkurt #postit #newmexico
