Nashville, TN history began with the founding of Fort Nashborough near fourth avenue north in 1779. Seventeen years later the area would be known as Nashville and it would also receive statehood in 1796. One hundred years later they would begin preparation of a celebration for the one hundred year anniversary of the State of Tennessee. This would become part of the Tennessee World Exposition that would be held in 1897.

In the West End area of Nashville there is a structure that was part of this celebration of the 100 year anniversary. The Parthenon is an amazing architecture feature that resembles that of the one built in Athens, Greece. It is the exact size and replica to the one and offers a stop that is worth checking out. During the Tennessee World Exposition in 1897 there were two million visitors to the site and individuals were in awe of the structure and the various other exhibits around The Parthenon. Fast forward to today you can visit it and it is open seven days a week. The first floor offers an art gallery along with museum that offers a history of the structure. The second floor offers a large sculpture of Athena holding a eight foot tall statue of Nike. There are artifacts throughout this level that are from the original Parthenon as well as history and information on Greek Mythology. There are two large bronze doors on each end of the second floor that weigh over seven tons. There is also a gift shop located on the first floor of the venue. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm and Sunday open from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The costs is only $15 to enter with discounts for senior citizens, veterans, and students.

For dining options nearby that were recommended to me by post it note check out Martin's BBQ, I Love Sushi, and Amerigo's. This area is less than ten minutes from the downtown area and part of the Hop On Hop Off Tour. It also sits in the middle of Centennial Park that offers plenty of great walking paths and beauty of the area. Add a stop at The Parthenon when visiting Nashville, TN. #ridingwithkurt #postit #theparthenon
