Changing Of The Gaurd Arlington National Cemetery!!!

Outside of Washington D.C. lies the city of Arlington, VA. It is home to an incredible cemetery that dates back to 1864. The Arlington National Cemetery is home to over 400,000 American soldiers laid to rest. Among this moving and historical place is a ceremony that is incredible. This is one part that you can't skip and part of my most recent post-it note trip.

The Changing Of The Gaurd began in March 25, 1926 and since then they have been offering this incredible ceremony daily. It takes place by the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier which those unidentified American Soldiers from World War One, World War Two, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War. It is also represents those missing in all conflict of war. The ceremony takes place every hour and is awesome. The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment who is called the Old Gaurd. Every hour the changing of the gaurd occurs where three soldiers are involved. One is the replacement, one is being replaced, and there is the officer doing the inspections. It is a white glove inspection with both soldiers by the commander. The soldiers conduct a series of marches that include 21 steps each direction. The 21 steps that go east then west then north are symbolizing the 21 gun salute. The entire ceremony last about 15 minutes.

Arrive early and remember there is no talking while the ceremony is taking place. Arlington National Cemetery offers gift shop, tours and is accessible by Metro. To get to Arlington National Cemetery from D.C. take the Metro to the Arlington Cemetery Sation. It is open seven days a week from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.
