Southern Arizona: A Great Winter Destination!!!
Finding that winter destination for travel is always a challenge. There is one place that I have been traveling to that offers an incredible outdoor scene, dining, great shopping, and it is ideal for the months of December through February. It is a state that I have been to about eight times including a post it note journey over three years ago.
Southern Arizona is absolutely amazing during the winter months. There are a few areas to check out when visiting the area around Scottsdale and Phoenix. Here are three great outdoor places to check out when visiting this area of Arizona in the winter.
The first is Old Town Scottsdale located just northwest of downtown Phoenix. There are plenty of great restaurants, museums, missions, and shopping. It is a very walkable area and a historic area that dates back seventy years. A couple of art galleries to check out include Arizona West Gallery, Bischoff's Gallery, Crazy Horse Gallery, and many more. Restaurants include Bootleggers, Capriotti's, Cien Agaves, Tacos and Tequilia's, and other dining options.
East of Phoenix there is a National Forrest that offers spectacular views of the desert and the Cacti. Tonto National Forrest is only an hour drive just east of Phoenix along the Globe Young Highway. There are spectacular views along with amazing hiking. If you are looking for a beauty that is indescribable then this is an amazing stop.
In the heart of Scottsdale lies Camelback Mountain. There are great hikes to the top and views of the area from each stop to the top. It is only located about fifteen minutes from downtown Scottsdale.
For hotels there is The Embassy Suites Scottsdale that offers great views of Camelback Mountain, Amazing Breakfast Buffet and Happy Hour, Fire Pits, and very large hotel rooms. For dining options in Gilbert, AZ check out the legendary Joe's Farm Grill that is a true farm to table experience.
