The city of San Antonio has plenty of great history. One such place is a bar that is located just around the corner of The Alamo and is the oldest bar in all of San Antonio. This was one of the places a group recommended to me by post it prior to me leaving for this trip.
Menger Bar is located at the Menger Hotel and has been around since 1887 and offers great drinks and food. One of the fun facts about this bar is that Teddy Roosevelt made a stop here to recruit the last group of the Rough Riders. There are even two bullet holes inside the bar which one belonged to Teddy himself. The other bullet hole belonged to one of the newly recruited Rough Riders and was part of a shooting challenge between the two in who could hit the corner which Teddy Roosevelt won. The bar was built as a replica to one of the bars found at the House of Lords in London. Today the bar offers creative cocktails and foods. I had their Margarita which was full of flavor and not to sweet or bitter. The ambiance is very cool inside with the original wood. The service was excellent and a very informative about providing the history of the iconic bar.
The bar is one of the top ten historic bars in all of the United States. Additionally, the Menger Hotel is just as historic as the bar. For a great historic bars in San Antonio add the Menger Bar on your next visit to San Antonio. #ridingwithkurt #delta #postit
