Fort Negley Nashville, TN!!!
In 1861 the state of Tennessee would secede from the Union with intention of a Confederate South. In 1862 the city of Nashville would become the center of intention for the American Civil War. The city was the dividing line to the Eastern and Western battle lines and the realization that the control of the Cumberland River would control the both amphitheaters to the American Civil War.
The Union would focus their attention to the city of Nashville knowing the importance of the location. By 1862 the city of Nashville would fall to the Union and the importance of the location was valuable. The Union army would begin building a defense that was in preparation of a Confederate retaliation and taking back the city that who ever would win would control the Cumberland River. In 1862 the Union Army would construct Fort Negley in preparation of the Confederate invasion. In 1964 the Battle of Nashville would occur and Fort Negley would be apart of it. Confederate John Bell Hood would lead his forces on December 15 -16 1864 to overcome Nashville but with the heavy fortifications of Nashville and Fort Negley by the Union they were able to find victory over the defeated Confederate Army.
Today there is a great visitor center at the base of the fort that offers great informative information. There is a self guided tour that offers various stops that show pictures of the area during thee era. Upon the top of the fort it offers great views of the area and the downtown area.
