A New England Experience: Rhode Island!!!
One of the oldest areas of The United States next to Saint Augustine, FL is the New England States. I was in New England earlier this year on a post it journey and there is so much to see and do especially with the history and various towns. One state is a hidden gem especially for summer travel that is located in the heart of New England and it may not be on your radar for summer travel but it is worth checking out.
In 1636 the colony of Rhode Island would be founded by Roger Williams who wanted to find a place that was separate from the religious laws at the time in Massachusetts. It would also be the first colony to denounce the English rule and renounce the colony belonged to England on May 4th, 1776. Rhode Island was the 13th colony to become a state inn . It was a key colony during the American Revolution as being one of the smallest colonies they had a key impact on the British who occupied the city of Newport. By 1780 the French General Rochambeau would arrive and it would be the beginning to the end of British rule in not only Rhode Island but the 13 colonies themselves. Rhode Island would be the last colony to become the 13th state on May 29,1790.
Today Rhode Island offers so many great places to explore. The first is Newport which is known for the wharf areas, the mansions, the cliff walk, the seafood, Fort Adams, dining, and gift shops. The second is Providence that has an Italian District known as Federal Hill that has great dining such as Cassarino's but the river walk is also worth checking out. Finally, for a great small town in Rhode Island the town of Warren is an amazing find. There are plenty of restaurants here including The Wharf, shops, and walking the streets offer you a great sense of the history of the town.
Late May and early June are a great time of year to explore Rhode Island. The temperatures are generally in the seventy degree range. For hotels look at the Providence Downtown Marriot. Add a stop to the state of Rhode Island when exploring New England. #ridingwithkurt #postit #rhodeisland
