Yesterday I had some great discussions about travel especially out west. One of the places that was discussed was part of a post it note journey that I did nearly three years ago. It is a National Park and the wildlife, scenery, and beauty this place has to offer is spectacular.
Yellowstone National Park is the second busiest National Park next to the Smokey National Park. It is the first National Park that was established in 1872. The park covers nearly 2.2 million acres and there is so many great attributes to visiting the park. Today people travel to the park to see the various wildlife including grizzly bears, moose, deer, elk, buffalo, eagles, and other species. It is also home to many geysers including the most famous one Old Faithful that has been drawing a crowd for over a century. There is various areas for hiking throughout the park to view the the nature. The entire park is drivable with throughout the park where you can stop and see the various geographic landscapes. There are a variety of visitor centers including Albright Visitor Center, West Yellowstone Visitor Center, Old Faithful Visitor Center, Grant Visitor Center, and Canyon Visitor Center. For lodging in the park there are Canyon Lodge and Cabins, Grant Village Lodge, Lake Yellowstone Hotel and Cabins, Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, and Old Faithful Inn. There are also cabin rentals available and camping sights throughout the entire park. For activities during the summer there is hiking, fishing, fly fishing, boating on Yellowstone Lake, and other activities. The cost to enter park is $35 but I generally recommend getting the annual park pass which is only $80. June is also a great time of year to visit but it is open year round.
Outside the park there is a great restaurant in West Yellowstone called the Slippery Otter. The have a wide range of menu items but their burgers are excellent. There are also a variety of motels in West Yellowstone. You can also stay Idaho Falls, ID or Bozeman, MT which are both about an hour and a half away. You can fly into Salt Lake City, UT (4 and half hours away), Bozeman, MT, Jackson Hole, WY, or Idaho Falls, ID. If you have never experienced Yellowstone National Park then add this as a destination this summer. #ridingwithkurt
