Over the last ten years I have been to Arizona at least eight times and one of these was part of a post it note journey out west two and a half years ago. Northern and Southern Arizona are completely different especially with the geography. One area to explore especially during the winter months is the area of Southern Arizona. Here are three amazing stops to add east of Phoenix, AZ.
East of Arizona is a incredible area for exploring the desert. Tonto National Forest offers exceptional views to see the desert, various cacti, and hiking. It is located about an hour east of Phoenix. There is no costs to visiting the forest and will not leave you disappointed. The next place is on the way back from Tonto which is an old mining area and a population of six. Tortilla Flat is a quaint old mining town that offers various gift shops, saloons, and restaurants. It is part of the Apache Trail and the drive to this area from Tonto National Forest is amazing. For a great farm to table dining experience head to Gilbert, AZ for an amazing stop. Joe's Farm Grill offers both breakfast and lunch. For lunch they have an extensive menu that ranges from appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, BBQ, Pizza, Hot Dogs, and other dishes along with their fried onion rings.
For Hotels I generally stay at the Embassy Suites Scottsdale that offers a great start to your day with an incredible breakfast. The hotel has great full size bedrooms and awesome views of Camel Back Mountain. Add a stop to these great stops when visiting east of Phoenix, AZ. #ridingwithkurt
