The city of Nashville has a great history to it with dating back to before 1779 when it was first discovered. There are so many excellent historical areas and places to explore. Here are three fantastic historical experiences in Nashville, TN.
The first stop dates back to 1896 and is part the Tennessee World Exposition that was held in 1897. The Parthenon is a impressive architectural feature in the West End area of Nashville. The first floor is the Visitor Center, Gift Shop, offers the history of the building, and art gallery. The second floor offers a forty foot statue of the goddess Athena holding a eight foot tall statue of the god Nike as well as artifacts from the original Parthenon. Admission to the Parthenon is $15.00 and is open seven days a week. The Parthenon is located in Centennial Park and is part of the Hop On Hop Off Trolley tour.
The next stop was erected during the American Civil War in 1862 and eventually used for battle in 1864 during the Battle of Nashville. Fort Negley is a great historical place in Nashville that has a great visitor center and gift shop. There is a path to the top of the fort that offers a self guided tour. Admission is Free and you can visit the fort seven days a week while the visitor center is open Wednesday through Saturday.
The third stop is located in Belle Meade and is part of the history of the area. Over time this mansion and the family who owned it made their money off of grocery stores and were the founders of Maxwell House Coffee. Today Cheekwood is an incredible estate that you can tour. They have the families original furniture, collections, art gallery, and botanical garden. Until March they have their Orchids on display at the property. It is open from Tuesday until Sunday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. One thing to note the property is closed due to recent weather events but when it opens it will be a historical stop to check out.
For dining options near each historical stop that has been recommended to me by post it note check out the following. For dining near the Parthenon check out Martin's BBQ, for Fort Negley head to Gabby's Burgers and Fries. and for Cheekwood check out Le Peep. These three stops will offer a great appreciation for the history of Nashville, TN. #ridingwithkurt
