Traveling out west is always a great experience especially with the state of Colorado. In the past four years I have traveled to this amazing state three times. It offers great adventures and exceptional hiking. If you are a fan of hiking here are three stops to check out that were recommended to me by post it note.
The Flatirons are located next to Boulder, CO which is a short thirty minute drive from Denver. The area offers various levels of hiking from simple to more extreme. This incredible rock formation rises out of the mountains and is breathtaking. For parking you can park at the NCAR Trailhead.
Just south of Denver is the town of Colorado Springs, CO. Next to the area is a great park that offers great hiking and awesome views. Garden of the God's has great paths around the area, along with a visitor center and areas you can even climb on the rocks. There is parking at the visitor center which is free.
Six hours southwest of Denver, CO is a very historic and sacred area to the Native American people of the area. Mesa Verde National Park that offers great hiking around the various Indian Dwellings dating back to almost 1,000 years ago. Once you enter the park you can hit up the visitor center which offers helpful information about the park from the Park Rangers themselves. There are several places you can park and hike around the area while enjoying the history of the area. Highly recommend recommend getting the annual national park pass for entry into the park.
For hotels in Denver I generally stay at the Hyatt House or Hyatt Place. There are plenty of hotels in Durango that are less than thirty minutes from the park. For dining options in the Denver area check out Beau Jo's Pizza or Walter 303. In Durango head to El Moro for a great mountain dining. Look at adding these stops this summer for your next Colorado adventure. #ridingwithkurt
