Washington D.C. is home to many remarkable buildings and architecture structures. It was a city that goes back to it's founding's in 1790 when George Washington established this area as a neutral ground that serves as America's nation's Capitol. This one structure was part of my post-it note journey to Washington D.C.
On September 18, 1793 George Washington laid the cornerstone of The National Capitol Building which would serve as the home for the United States congress. It would go through many historical challenges as during the war of 1812 the British would set fire to the building and the White House in 1814 but with a sudden rain storm the structure would be saved. From 1850 to 1863 the Capitol would undergo more expansion and additions with the 287 foot dome and the Statue of Freedom. In 1855 an Italian artists known as Constantino Brumidi would be hired to design the beautiful murals throughout the Capitol Building including the Mural at the dome in the center. Today the beauty and history is found throughout the building. There are so many incredible parts to check out including the House of Representatives, The Senate, The Central Rotunda, George Washington's Unused tomb, The Old Supreme Court Chamber, the various statues throughout the Capitol Building, and art work. There is so much awesome history throughout America's Capitol.
For visiting the Capitol Building of The United States you'll want to schedule a tour of the building through their website or with your local representative. I booked through my state representative and was able to get a private tour that offered more including a tour from the Dirksen Building to the Capitol Building with the tram that connects the two. America's nation's Capitol is well worth checking out when visiting Washington D.C. #ridingwithkurt #postit #washingtondc
