Individuals have been traveling to Nashville since the 1800's. In fact, in 1897 over 2 million people traveled to Nashville for the Tennessee World Exposition that was held near the West End area of Nashville. The exposition was held for the 100 year celebration for Tennessee Statehood. Lately I have been sharing this history about Centennial Park and The Parthenon. Today you can visit these sites and take in the history.
The Parthenon was completed in 1897 prior to the exhibition as a temporary exhibit. It was voted in by the citizens of the city to keep it as a permanent structure. Today you can visit the Parthenon and enjoy the serene beauty of the architecture of the structure that is a life size replica to the one in Athens Greece. The first floor offers a gift shop, tells about the history of the building, and art gallery. The second floor offers a step into time with the history of the Greek gods, 40-foot statue of Athena holding an 8-foot statue of the Greek god Nike which stands for victory. There are also artifacts in this area from the original Parthenon and the Acropolis. The Bronze Doors inside the second level is massive, over 24 feet in height and weigh 7.5 tons each. The hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 am until 7:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 9:00 am until 4:30 pm, Sunday 12:30 pm until 4:30 pm. Admission is $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for seniors and students. The Parthenon sits in Centennial Park which has great walking paths and a pond to take in the beauty of this area.
For dining options nearby that have been recommended to me by post it note check out Martin's BBQ, The Row, Elliston Place Soda Shop, I Love Sushi, The Local, and plenty of other great options. For stays across from the park and Parthenon there is The Marriott Vanderbilt. A stop at the Parthenon will provide a rich history of not only Nashville but for the history of Tennessee. #ridingwithkurt
