Yesterday after a great lunch with friends at Downs At Grayson at the Pearl I headed to a very historic sight in San Antonio that had been recommended to me by a post it note.  The small area that was converted from a small mission to a Spanish Fort in 1793.  The mission that was converted to fort became known as home to the Alamo Company.  The fort would remain under Spanish control until Mexico would win their independence in 1821.  In 1833 a new ruler would take over as the new president of Mexico known as Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.  Shortly for after the Mexican Revolution would begin.

The Mexican Revolution known as the Texas Battle for Independence would begin in 1835.  In 1836, Texans would be gathering behind the walls of the Alamo in preparation for Santa Anna's army.  The Texans would be joined by other volunteer armies including Davy Crockett and the Volunteer's from Tennessee.  The fort was under the command of William Travis and James Bowie.  The men at the Alamo made preparation for battle.  The Battle of the Alamo lasted for 13 days from February 17 until March 6, 1836.  The final push on the last day of battle by the Mexican Army left for no survivors for those who defended the fort.  The bravery and heroism of those who defended throughout the area to the eventual defeat of Santa Anna's army at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836.  This final battle allowed for Texas to have their independence.

Over time there would be several additons to the Alamo as a frontier post to a Fort for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Today you can visit the Alamo which offers various packages for touring the property.  I recommend the Alamo Church Free Entry and the Alamo Exhibit.  The total cost was around $14 dollars and offered plenty of information about the Alamo before, during, and after the battle as well as plenty of artifacts, paintings, and weapons used.   There are also self-guided and guided tours at the Alamo.  If you are a fan of history, then add a stop at the Alamo for your next adventure in San Antonio.  #ridingwithkurt #delta #postit
