Nashville was founded near the banks of Cumberland River in 1779. On June 1st, 1796, it became the 16th State of the United States. Fast forward to 1843 when Nashville would be named as the Capitol of the State of Tennessee on October 1st. In 1859, the Capitol would open, and Tennessee would have, at that point, the highest building in the state. The building itself is built out of limestone and reflects the architecture of the Greek Revival. The limestone is significant because of how it was quarried by local stone cutters , and Nashville sits on top of limestone.

Today, you can visit the state capitol building and take in the over 160 years of history. They building offers self guided tours as well as guided tours. The guided tour is about 45 minutes and they offer various times beginning at 9:00 am and running through 3:00 pm. For groups of 12 or more, call in advance for reservations. Experience the history of The State Capone along with some great history of Tennessee with great statues of some Nashville icons in history, including Andrew Jackson, Sergent Alvin C York, and Sam Davis.

Restaurants that are close by that have been recommended to me by post-it notes include Drucy and Dar at The Hermitage Hotel, The Grange at The Grand Hyatt, M. L. Rose, Central BBQ, Condado Tacos, and many more. For stays nearby, look at the Grand Hyatt, Hermitage Hotel, Hampton Inn Capitol View, The Bankers Alley Hotel, and Union Station Hotel. This area around the Capitol is a great area to explore, plus the history and food is amazing, plus easy walks to the Farmers Market, Bicentennial Mall, and Tennessee State Museum. Great history plus the Tennessee State Capitol. This is definitely an area and experience to add when visiting Nashville, TN. #ridingwithkurt
