The history of Tennessee is absolutely fascinating. The state is the 16th state of the Union and is began as as territory for North Carolina. Nashville has some fascinating stops for history here are four to check out when visiting Nashville, TN.
The first is located on 1st Avenue North but the original location for it's establishment was located on 4th Avenue North. Fort Nashborough was established in 1779 with 200 settlers and James Robertson. It would be a pioneer fort that eventually was used for trade and a stop for trade along the Cumberland River. Today you can visit the location that offers a self guided tour.
During the American Civil War Tennessee would be the last state to join the Confederacy. Nashville would be taken by the Union in 1862 and they would begin building a series of forts and barricades knowing the value of the city with the access to the Cumberland . Fort Negley was built in 1862 and would be later used for battle in 1864 during the Battle of Nashville. Today there is a visitor center and a self guided tour that tells about the history of the fort and the battle.
Nashville would establish statehood in 1796 and hundred years later there would be a building built to recognize the anniversary. The Parthenon is an amazing architectural site that is an exact replica to the one in Greece. in 1897 the sight would be home to the Tennessee World Exposition that would be visited by 2 million visitors in the six months of the exposition. Today you can visit both the structure and the park.
To get a great overview of Tennessee history head to Germantown. You will find the Tennessee State Museum which offers a great history tour of the state of Tennessee. It is free to attend and open Tuesday through Sunday.
For dining options that have been recommended to me by post it note near each of these respective stops check out Gabby's Burger and Fries (near Fort Negley), Von Elrod's Beer Hall (near the TN State Museum), Martin's BBQ (near the Parthenon), and many more. You can visit these sights any time of year. If you are a fan of history then check out these four stops when visiting Nashville, TN. #ridingwithkurt #history #postit
