Yesterday, I gave a fantastic ride to an individual who was visiting Nashville from Arizona. We chatted about things to do in Nashville and life. Even shared my story with the creation of ridingwithkurt.com. We also discussed great stops in Arizona.
One of the places we chatted about is located in northeastern Arizona. This incredible Navajo tribal park offers so much beauty in this area of Arizona. Monument Valley is a place I discovered two years ago on a post-it note trip that included this area of the United States. I was able to get there at sunset, and the reflection of the sun off the buttes throughout the area was spectacular. There is a 17-mile loop throughout the park that operates on a seasonal basis. Throughout the summer the park is open from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm with last entry at 4:30 pm. During winter hours the park is open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with last entry at 2:30 pm.
The area is limited for dining, but there is a fast food dining option that has an incredible museum at it. Forty minutes from Monument Valley is the town of Katenta, AZ. There you will find a Burger King. Inside this establishment is an amazing Navajo Museum. During WW2, the Navajo became part of the United States history with assisting with the US Forces in using their native language to assist the troop movement in the Pacific theater. Because of their heroism and effort, they helped the United States win the Pacific theater in 1945. Today in the town of Katenta at Burger King, there is a museum that honors these extraordinary soldiers and individuals.
Monument Valley is located in Northeastern Arizona and is definitely worth the stop. Page, AZ is about two hours away, and this offers an excellent hotel with a great view of Lake Powell. The Quality Inn View of Lake Powell offers very comfortable rooms and a great breakfast buffet to start your day. Plus, it's only about two hours away from the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon. Add a stop to this area of Arizona on your next destination out west. #ridingwithkurt
