The other night I was chatting with a couple about traveling out west particularly Colorado. In the last four years I have been to Colorado three times and the state never disappoints. Last year I traveled to Colorado for another post it note adventure that included a stop to a place I had wanted to see since I first saw it as a kid in a National Geographic magazine.

Mesa Verde National Park is located in South Western Colorado and is absolutely a incredible place to check out. The area was settled by Native Americans around 1000 years ago and they started building pits to live in. As time progressed over the next three hundred years it eventually led to them building cliff dwellings. Trade would be apart of the Native Americans in this area where they had a sophisticated gardening system that was taught to them from those along the trade route.

Today you can visit Mesa Verde National Park and the entrance to the park is located on the northern side of the park. Your first stop is the visitor center that offers great information about the park along with the park rangers who can answer all your questions about the area. From there you head into the park and there are several stops that allow you to see the various pits, dwellings, an incredible views of Navajo Canyon. There is information boards at each stop. For food there is the Far View Terrace that offers all sorts of great food along with grab and goes. The Terrace also has a gift shop along with the visitor center.

I found late May as a great time to visit Mesa Verde. I stayed in Mesa Verde that offered great dining at El Moro. A stop at Mesa Verde will give you an appreciation of the history of the Native American people and the beauty of southwestern Colorado. #ridingwithkurt
