If you're not a fan of crowds, loud music, and looking for a more alternative than the norm in Nashville, the city does offer other great alternatives. The city has a history dating back to the late 1700s. If you enjoy history, then here are some excellent places to check out in The Music City. Plus, some of these stops are even free.

The State Capital building in Nashville offers tours Monday through Friday at various times. The tours are about forty-five minutes and provide a great history of the capital building.

The Bicentennial Mall offers a self guided tour of the history of the state of Tennessee. Located in Germantown next to the Farmers Market and Tennessee State Museum, this offers a great overview of Tennessee.

The Civil War was part of the history of Tennessee. One place to tour is Fort Negley. Located in the Wedgewood area of Nashville, the Fort offers a visitor center and self guided tour.

Fort Nashboro was the founding of Nashville with the original location near 4th Avenue North. Today, there is a small replica on First Avenue.

The Parthenon, located on West End, is always a great stop. Originally built for the 100-year celebration for the state of Tennessee. Today, you can visit the Parthenon and see the historic venue that offers a history of the building, art gallery, and artifacts from Greece.

Cheekwood is located in Belle Meade and offers an incredible mansion that was built by the Cheek family. Today, you can visit the Mansion that has the original furniture, collections, art gallery, and botanical garden.

Finally, there is The Hermitage located in the Donelson area, which is the home of Andrew Jackson. The property offers tours, self guided tours, and visitor centers. Located twenty minutes north of Nashville.

There are a tremendous amount of great dining near all these historical stops that have been recommended to me by post-it notes. Restaurants that I have enjoyed near these locations include Nectar, Sam's Place, Smiling Elephant, Jasper's, and other excellent dining. Add these historical stops and great dining when visiting Nashville, TN. #ridingwithkurt
