Yesterday I was giving a ride to a group that was visiting Nashville from California and Nevada. I mentioned that these were two places that I journeyed to two years ago as part of my first post it notes trip. If there are three places that you want to check out in the Las Vegas area that offer a unique outdoor experience plus history, then add these to your lists.

The first is Red Rock Canyon which is located just west of Las Vegas. The scenic views and hiking of the area offer a taste of the desert along with amazing views. Reservations are required from October to May 31st from 8 am to 5 pm.

The second is the Valley of Fire located north of Las Vegas. Unique geographical features that offer a great area with their driving loop through the park. There are areas to stop and hike certain areas plus the rock formations are spectacular. The state park is located about 45 minutes northeast of Las Vegas.

The Hoover Dam is a man-made wonder that at the time of completion in 1935 it was the tallest dam in the world. Today you can visit the dam and the majestic size it has to offer as it sits between both Arizona and Nevada. The Colorado River flows through the dam and backs up Lake Mead. There is a visitor center and museum that provides a great history of the dam from start to finish. Tours are available and take you inside the dam to see the behind the scenes of the working dam that is still in use today. There are several different packages for admittance into the dam but well worth the costs. The Hooker Dam is located 40 minutes east of Las Vegas.

For dining option in the Las Vegas area that were recommended to me by post it note check out Viva Las Arepas. For hotel stays add Hyatt Place which is a short drive to the strip and centrally located in Las Vegas. You won't go wrong with all three of these experiences as well as everything Las Vegas has to offer. #ridingwithkurt
