My journey yesterday stretched from Denver to Durango with a stop halfway. About a month ago, I was talking to a couple who told me about one stop to add when visiting Colorado. This National Park wasn't even on my radar for my upcoming trip, but after they told me about it, I made sure to add it. They provided me a post-it note stop for this part of my Colorado trip.

Great Sand Dunes National Park And Preserve is located three and a half hours southwest of Denver. The drive to the park is quite scenic and offers incredible views of the southwest portion of Colorado. Once you arrive at the park, you'll arrive at the gate to enter. I highly recommend buying the annual park pass for all National Parks it's only $80, and after three parks, it pays for itself. Once you enter the park, the first stop is the visitor center. The visitor center offers informative information about the park, video, and gift shop.

The second stop is the actual parking area for the Great Sand Dunes. The views of the Great Sand Dunes are amazing. You can walk up and to the top of the Dunes. You can actually sled on the Dunes, enjoy the various views, or walk through and play in the rivers that helped create the Dunes. There are bathrooms and changing areas by the parking area. You'll want to make sure you have proper shoes or a sturdy pair of sandals for hiking around the Dunes.

The Dunes were formed over time through a series of environmental and historical events that shaped the now National Park and surrounding area. One thing to note is that with the sand, it can be a little challenging walking on, but take your time, and as long as you are putting one foot in front of the other, you can keep going. The Great Sand Dunes National Park was worth the stop and will never forget the beauty and size of this natural wonder. Add this Colorado stop next time you're in Colorado!!! #ridingwithkurt #postit #delta
