Today is part one of a three day historical experience in Boston, MA. Boston is home to so much history dating back to it's founding's in 1630. It was settled by Puritans from 1630 until 1700. By 1760 the pressure with high taxation led to many Bostonians questioning the rule by England. From 1770 to 1783 the American Revolution would occur and Boston would be the centerpiece of many of those events plus part of my post-it note journey.
The Freedom Trail is a large part of the experience in Boston. It takes you by several great historical stops throughout the city of Boston. One stretch of it connects from a famous ride to a famous church to a burying ground to a ship that was undefeated.
On April 18, 1775 Paul Revere would receive notice of the British Army arriving to Boston. His famous midnight ride with his famous saying "the British are coming" alerted colonists about the invasion of Boston. This ride would eventually lead to the battles of Lexington and Concord. Today the Freedom Trail has two stops for Paul Revere that consists of his house and The Old North Church that the two lanterns were lit to warn the colonists that the British were coming by sea. Today they are both part of the Freedom Trail and available to tour. They are both fascinating as the house for Paul Revere dates back to the 1700's while the church was established in 1723.
After the Church you'll come across a historic burying ground. Copp's Hill Burrying Ground dates back to 1659. This is a very historic place as some of the early founders of Boston are found here.
The next part is the USS Constitution that is a warship dating back to the 1800's. During the War of 1812 the ship would be undefeated with a record of 33 - 0. Today you can view, tour, and visit the museum that had a gift shop. Adjacent to the museum is a memorial for that all that served for the United States Navy.
This stretch of the Freedom Trail takes you from the downtown area of Boston to across the river. The walk is awesome and you see so much history. This stretch of the Freedom Trail is about 1.2 miles and won't leave you disappointed. #ridingwithkurt #postit #freedomtrailboston
