Thirty-five minutes south of Nashville is the town of Franklin. I took a group down there yesterday, and it offers plenty of great history, shopping, dining, and other attractions. There are even some dining options I've enjoyed that were recommended to me by post-it notes.
Downtown Franklin is a completely different vibe than Broadway. The pace is much slower, and the area used to be a large agricultural and farming community. Today, there are quaint shops that offer a variety of different retail stores. There is a variety of dining options throughout the town. Some of these places include Puckett's, Cullaccino, 55 South, Etch, plus many other options. Another area that offers some great variety near the downtown Franklin area is The Factory. There are so many great shops and restaurants in this old building.
History is also part of this area in Tennessee. The Battle of Franklin occurred here in 1864. You can visit various areas, including the Carter House that was where the Confederacy made camp and a staging area for the army of the south to advance on the Union Army that had barricaded themselves throughout the city. After an evening of intense fighting, the Union Army would be victorious. This area offers a visitor center, a self guided trail and tour, and a way to visit the old mansion.
There is a Hilton Hotel near the downtown Franklin Hotel called The Harpeth Franklin Curio Collection. It's conveniently located near all the places mentioned above. There is also a great bookstore near the hotel called Landmark Bookstellars. There are plenty of historical books at this really neat bookstore. A stop in downtown Franklin will provide you with an appreciation for this area of Tennessee and everything it has to offer. Add a stop in Franklin with your next visit to Tennessee. #ridingwithkurt
