Historical markers and sights can be found all around Nashville. From early foundations of Fort Nashboro, Pioneer history, civil war stops, and even modern Nashville stops along with a great variety of history and music history with great muesems.
The discovery began with James Robertson in 1780 when he, along with a group of pioneers, came into the area and built Fort Nashboro. The Fort would be used to protect the new Pioneers to the North Carolina territory as well as establish a supply area for those passing through the area, whether by river or by horseback.
Prior to Robertson arriving in the area, there is a historical fur trapper and eventually an American Revolutionary lieutenant from Canada who discovered the wealth of the middle Tennessee area. In 1766, this French Canadian fur trapper discovered the area and began hunting Buffalo, deer, and various other wildlife and trading with the local Natives. By the time Robertson arrived, they were surprised by the knowledge of Jacques-Timothée Boucher, who eventually became known as Timothy Demonbreun.
Timothy Demonbreun would have a successful fur trading business in Nashville by 1800 after the territory had become a state in 1796. He would become known as Nashville's First Citizen. Finally, before his death in 1826 after much success financially in Nashville, he would meet with Marquis De Lafayette and Andrew Jackson with Lafayette farewell tour on May 4, 1825. Both would speak in French about the amazing future this country offered in 1825. Today, you can visit his statue located on First Avenue just slightly north of the Fort Nashboro Monument on 1st Avenue North.
For dining near Demonbreun's statue walk up tho Printer's Alley, where this area marked the area of the original Fort Nashboro plus a lot of history in the late 1800s and early 1900's. A couple places that have been recommended to me by post-it notnote this area are Fleet Street, Skull's Rainbow Room, and Daddy's Dog. Hotels in the nearby include the Bobby, Dream Hotel, Noelle, and Courtyard by Marriott on 4th Avenue. Great history, alo,g with incredible dining and hotels in this area of downtown Nashville. #ridingwithkurt
