A Southern Route Through Tennessee and Mississippi

A journey to the South offers an experience unlike other areas of the United States. The culture, the food, history, and sights are reflective of the individual cities that make up the area a slower pace life then great ready for this amazing trip which many of these stops were recommended to me by post it notes from individuals from these various stops.

Memphis is the home of Blues, BBQ, and Graceland. There are two stops for ribs you will want to check out. Rendezvous BBQ is a stop in the heart of downtown Memphis that offers delectable and flavorful ribs that they have been serving since the 1940's. The other Rib Stop is outside of Memphis but offers their own style of ribs, which is Central BBQ. Both are awesome, and the flavors of each style are awesome.

South of Memphis is the town of Oxford, MS. It is the home of the University of Mississippi, great food, William Faulkner, and a town square that is one to check out with the various shops, restaurants, bookstores, and boutiques. The game day experience with the Grove is awesome, and a football experience will not leave you disappointed. Some dining options in Oxford that I have enjoyed consisting of The City Grocery, Big Bad Breakfast, Jinsei, McKewen's, and Saint Leo.

East of Oxford is the town of Tupelo. There are two great dining options in this town that are worth checking out. The Neon Pig for their sandwiches and The Grillehouse Steak and Seafood for their steaks is a must.

An hour north of Tupelo is the area of Shiloh, which is just across the border in TN. Shiloh is home to the Battle of Shiloh, which offers a great visitor center and self guided tour of the battlefield. Outside the park is a fried catfish experience unlike any other. Haggy's offers exceptional service and great fried catfish along with other tasty southern treats and cuisines.
